Dean Christchurch Cathedral

Dean Christchurch Cathedral

The Bishop of Christchurch and the Chapter of Christ Church Cathedral wish to appoint a new Dean.

CHCH Cathedral

The role of Dean is includes responsibilities for the worship and ministry of the Cathedral, leadership of its mission to the city of Christchurch and close collaboration with the Bishop of Christchurch in the use of the Cathedral for Diocesan services and events.

Ideally the new Dean will be Dean for at least ten years, encompassing the remaining four to five years of the Cathedral in its current Transitional building, in Latimer Square, and then a period of re-establishing the ministry and mission of the Cathedral in the reinstated building, and new ancillary buildings in Cathedral Square.

The Dean will need to foster, maintain, and strengthen the unique position of the Cathedral as central to the heart of the city and the Diocese.

The Dean will be the public face and voice of the Cathedral community and will have an identifiable presence within the Cathedral, the Diocese, the wider city community, and in the life of The Cathedral Grammar School. The Dean will embrace the choral tradition of worship in the Cathedral and be open to other forms of worship being developed in the life of the Cathedral.

Our new Dean will be an experienced priest in good standing in their current Diocese, familiar with the Three Tikanga life of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia, and have demonstrable relational, team-building, pastoral and communication skills.

For a copy of the Cathedral Profile and an expression of interest form, please contact, Veronica Cross, the Bishop’s E.A. on bishopsea@anglicanlife.org.nz or 03-348-6701. Formal applications for consideration for the position close at 5 pm Friday 21 July 2023.
