Priest in Charge Vacancy

Priest in Charge Vacancy

Dunstand Parish Central Otago, Diocese of Dunedin

Following a recent retirement, the Dunstan Parish based at Alexandra in Central Otago and including Roxburgh, is seeking to appoint a Priest in Charge.

We are able to provide a 2/3rd stipend. Funds are available for the purchase of a vicarage.

We are seeking someone as our Priest in Charge who we can engage with, who is approachable and can lead us on our Christian journey. The appointee would have the support of an able and vital lay ministry team, two PTOs and an enthusiastic and loyal congregation. The population of Central Otago is increasing and there are opportunities to “grow” the parish.

We enjoy innovative and varied forms of worship and musical accompaniment. Study and discussion groups are well-supported and extend our understanding and appreciation of Christ’s teaching, and the meaning of living a Christian life in the present age.

The parish has an active pastoral care team who visit, and otherwise care for those in need, and we engage with the local community and other church denominations through such events as the Annual Children’s Light Party and a food bank.

Parishioners enjoy a social event from time to time, we have an informative newsletter (The Link) and there is much fun and good humour among us.

The main church, St Aidan’s, is at Alexandra, a second church, St James’, is located in Roxburgh where there are monthly services, and there is also some outreach to other surrounding rural areas.

The people of Central Otago enjoy an enviable lifestyle. Essentially a rural community, the district is known for its scenery, friendly people, its walking and cycle trails, vineyards, orchards, and numerous cafes, restaurants and hotels serving good food and local wines.

Alexandra will soon have its second supermarket, has two medical centres, a good size swimming pool and other sporting facilities, a recent addition being a curling rink. There are drama and choir groups and U3A programmes and REAP courses are available.

The nearby historic town of Clyde has a hospital with helicopter access to Dunedin.  Cromwell is 27k away, Wanaka 78k and Queenstown 86k.

There are good schools at all levels, pre-school, primary and secondary. The summers are hot and dry. The winters cool and bracing. Some part-time work ought to be available if required.

To request a Parish Profile or to make informal enquiries please contact:  Rt Rev’d Steven Benford (Bishop of Dunedin) PO Box 13170, Dunedin 9052.  New Zealand.

The Bishop of Dunedin is looking to appoint Priests who are practising and modelling lives of prayer, a commitment to the Bible, and witnessing to the risen life of Jesus Christ.
