The World Council of Churches (WCC) is a fellowship of churches founded in 1948. It brings together 350 member churches from all over the world, including Orthodox, Anglican, Protestant and United churches, to promote Christian unity, witness and service for a just and peaceful world.

 

From its headquarters at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva, Switzerland, the WCC conducts its work together with member churches and ecumenical partners. Activities include engaging churches in theological dialogue; promoting peace and justice in places of conflict; inter-religious dialogue; and ecumenical education.

 

The WCC, with a programme budget if 16.5 million CHF in 2021, is looking for a Manager responsible for Income Monitoring and Development (IMD), as well as Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting (PMER) at 100%, who will lead its fundraising efforts to ensure the support and engagement its member churches and ecumenical partners.

 

The manager reports to the Director of the Office of the General Secretariat and works closely with the deputy general secretaries, directors of finance and communication, and programme staff. The manager works closely with WCC governing bodies, member churches, specialized ministries and funding partners.

Specific responsibilities

  • Oversee the design and implementation of fundraising strategies and outreach efforts with current and prospective donors.
  • Provide leadership in fundraising activities, exploring new opportunities through strategic partnerships and developing new methods of cooperation.
  • Provide leadership in planning and reporting, seeking to enhance WCC programme development through objective-based planning and the ability to document contributions to change.
  • Work with and supervise staff responsible for Income Monitoring and Development (IMD) and Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting (PMER).
  • Work with WCC leadership in developing a staff-wide fundraising culture, encouraging and supporting programme staff engaged in fundraising efforts.
  • Work with WCC leadership and programme staff to promote WCC work and strengthen the involvement of its member churches and ecumenical partners.
  • Work with finance staff to plan and monitor income allocations related to budget processes and partnership agreements.
  • Work with communication staff to enhance fundraising-related communication.
  • Guide WCC leadership and governing body members in developing opportunities for their involvement with fundraising efforts.
  • Prepare plans and reports for WCC governing bodies.

 

Qualifications and special requirements

Experience

  • Minimum seven years’ experience and a strong record of accomplishment in income development and fundraising, preferably in an international, ecumenical and/or church-related environment.
  • Minimum five years of personnel and project management experience, including results-oriented planning, monitoring, evaluation and reporting

 

Education

  • University degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Theological training and ecumenical formation.

 

Competencies and other requirements

  • Ability to represent, interpret and communicate the WCC to existing and prospective donors, and WCC constituencies.
  • Strong writing skills and experience with grant development.
  • Broad knowledge of fundraising, communication and information technologies.
  • Experience in managing human resources and project deadlines.
  • Experience in working sensitively in multicultural and ecumenical settings.
  • Communicate in a comfortable manner through social media.

 

Language skills

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English. Knowledge of other working languages of the WCC is an asset, i.e. French, German and Spanish.

Computer skills

  • High level of computer literacy.
