Fulltime Vicar

Fulltime Vicar

Parish of Fendalton

The Parish of Fendalton is looking for a new Vicar to lead our parish. We give thanks for work done by previous Vicars who have created many opportunities for worship and engagement for both our parishioners and those living in the local community.

We hope that our new Vicar will build on our present strengths while also looking for new ways of growing and developing the parish. We are one of the larger parishes in the Diocese of Christchurch, and have a diverse variety of services, and many outreach activities.

Parishioners believe the current strengths of the parish are

• The variety of services and groups offered

• The warmth, fellowship and welcoming environment

• A broad community outreach at all ages/levels

• Focus on Pastoral care

• Quality preaching and liturgy/services

• Emphasis on Children, Youth and Young Adults

The new vicar will be an experienced priest with strong robust faith, have energy, enthusiasm and be a person of vision. He/she will be committed to the Anglican Church and knowledgeable about the bi-cultural partnership and three Tikanga structure of the province of Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia. He/she will be able to lead a strong clergy and staff team, together with a large number of volunteers.

The qualities that we are looking for in a new Vicar include:

• A strong, mature and respectful leader with solid people skills

• A person who is able to commit to this parish for a number of years

• Ability to delegate to clergy and lay people

• A good communicator and listener

• Understanding of and able to develop the richness and diversity of the parish and the range of services offered. Build a parish that is inclusive of all gender, race, and diverse theological thinking

• Be comfortable with traditional and innovative ways of worship

• Willing to encourage both traditional and modern music as an essential part of Sunday worship

• An appreciation of the strengths of the parish

• A strong emphasis on worship and pastoral care

• Challenging preaching, and ability to provide opportunities for learning, discussion and spiritual growth

• Be committed to all ages and stages of parishioners with a strong emphasis on encouragement of children, young people and their parents
